Terming the October 27, as ‘day of mourning’ for the Kashmiris, the Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani today called for complete shutdown on that day.
“October 27, 1947 is day when armed forces landed in Kashmir against the wishes of people. The people of the Jammu & Kashmir were neither asked for their views about that forced control on that day and nor are their wishes and aspirations being respected today,” Geelani said in a statement.
“The so-called accession of Maharaja Hari Singh with India is controversial, unreliable and undemocratic. Firstly the experts raise many important questions over the occurrence of that accession and secondly Maharaja had not got any such mandate from the people of the state. Indian National Congress had at that time adopted a stand about the princely states that the decision regarding to the future of these states will not be taken by the Maharajas or kings but it is the sole right of the people of the states and they will be asked for their wishes and views about the merging in Pakistan or with the India. Rulers of Hyderabad and Junagad at that time wanted to merge their states with Pakistan but India landed its army saying that it is against the principles of partition and the wishes of the people but the same rulers of India adopted duel policies on Kashmir.”
